TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE (for Column Shift Type) > REMOVAL

1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.


2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Regular Cab)

  1. Detach the 6 claws and 3 clips, and remove the front door scuff plate.



3. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH (for Double Cab, CrewMax)

  1. Detach the 6 claws and 3 clips, and remove the front door scuff plate.



4. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM BOARD LH

  1. Remove the clip.

  1. Detach the 2 clips and remove the cowl side trim board.



5. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL FINISH PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY LH

  1. Remove the hood lock control lever.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts.

  1. Detach the 9 clips and claw.

  1. for Automatic Air Conditioning System:
    Detach the 2 claws and remove the sensor.

  1. Remove the finish panel and then disconnect the connectors.



6. REMOVE LOWER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL AIRBAG ASSEMBLY

  1. Remove the 4 bolts and remove the instrument panel airbag.

  1. Detach the 2 claws and disconnect the DLC3.

  1. Disconnect the connector.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


7. REMOVE CENTER LOWER INSTRUMENT COVER


  1. Remove the 2 clips and cover.

8. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/o Steering Pad Switch)

  1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

  1. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.

    NOTICE:
    When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


9. REMOVE STEERING PAD (w/ Steering Pad Switch)

  1. Using a T30 "TORX" socket wrench, loosen the 2 screws until the groove along the screw circumference catches on the screw case.

  1. Pull out the steering pad from the steering wheel, as shown in the illustration. Then support the steering pad with one hand.

    NOTICE:
    When removing the steering pad, do not pull the airbag wire harness.
  1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the steering pad.

    NOTICE:
    When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.


10. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
  1. Remove the steering wheel set nut.

  1. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel and main shaft.

  1. Using SST, remove the steering wheel.

11. REMOVE LOWER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Remove the 2 screws.

  1. Detach the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover.



12. REMOVE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER

  1. Detach the 4 clips.

  1. Detach the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.



13. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH
  1. for Manual Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat LH (Click here).

  1. for Power Seat Type:
    Remove the front seat LH (Click here).

  1. for Center Seat:
    Remove the front seat LH (Click here).

  1. for Fold Down Seat:
    Remove the front seat LH (Click here).



14. REMOVE COLUMN SHIFT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY

  1. Move the shift lever to N.

  1. Fold back the floor carpet.

  1. Disconnect the column shift transmission control cable end from the column shift.

  1. Press the sides of the outer cable socket to detach the claws and disconnect the cable from the steering column shaft bracket.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the 2 cable clamps.

  1. Remove the nut and clip, and disconnect the transmission control cable from the automatic transmission.

  1. Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable support.

  1. Remove the 2 bolts and then pull the transmission control cable into the vehicle to remove it.
