DESCRIPTION

While the engine is being cranked, current flows from terminal STAR of the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) to the park/neutral position switch assembly and to terminal STA of the ECM (STA signal).

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

NOTICE:
Inspect the fuses for circuits related to this system before performing the following inspection procedure.
1.CHECK WHETHER ENGINE CAN BE CRANKED
  1. Check if the engine can be cranked.

2.READ VALUE USING INTELLIGENT TESTER (STARTER SIGNAL)
  1. Connect the intelligent tester to DLC3.

  1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

  1. Turn the tester on.

  1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / All Data / Starter Signal.

  1. Check the value displayed on the tester when the engine switch is turned to the on (IG) and the engine is started.

    OK 
    Switch Condition
    Tester Display (Starter Signal)
    Engine switch on (IG)
    Close (Off)
    Engine started
    Open (On)

3.INSPECT RELAY (ST RELAY)
  1. Inspect the ST relay (Click here).

4.INSPECT STARTER ASSEMBLY
  1. Inspect the starter assembly (Click here).

5.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - STARTER ASSEMBLY)
  1. Remove the ST relay from the engine room relay block and junction block assembly.

  1. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

    Tester Connection
    Condition
    Specified Condition
    3 (ST relay) - E9-1
    Always
    Below 1 Ω
    3 (ST relay) or E9-1 - Body ground
    Always
    10 kΩ or higher

6.CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - STARTER ASSEMBLY)
  1. Disconnect the starter assembly connector.

  1. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

    11 to 14 V

  1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch assembly connector.

  1. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

    Standard Resistance:

    E85-9 (L) - 2 (ST relay)
    Always

    A43-7 (STA) - 2 (ST relay)

  1. Disconnect the certification ECU (smart key ECU assembly) connector.

  1. Disconnect the ECM connector.

  1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
